This page lists every hail, thunderstorm wind and tornado event that the National Weather Service recorded in the nine counties around Winston-Salem and Greensboro from 2015 through 2026. The source is the NOAA Storm Events Database, the official record of severe weather in the United States. We publish it here because homeowners often do not know whether a storm that hit their street was large enough to damage a roof, and the public record answers that question better than memory does.
Counties covered: Forsyth, Guilford, Davidson, Stokes, Surry, Davie, Yadkin, Randolph, Rockingham. Data vintage: NOAA file dated 2026-09-18. Page generated 2026-10-03.

* 2026 shows only what NOAA has published so far; the newest Triad event in the current file is Jun 27, 2026, and later months are added as the Weather Service finalizes them, usually two to three months behind. The database records hail of roughly three quarters of an inch and larger that was reported to the Weather Service, so pea-sized hail and unreported storms do not appear. A zero here means no qualifying report has been published yet, not that no hail fell.

One inch is the National Weather Service threshold for severe hail and the size at which asphalt shingles commonly start to bruise. Newest first. The location is the point the report was logged against, so a storm can affect neighborhoods well beyond it.

Find your county and the months a storm passed through. If one of these dates matches a storm you remember, a roof inspection is worth scheduling, even when nothing looks wrong from the ground. Hail bruises and wind-lifted shingles are usually not visible from the yard, and insurance claims for storm damage have filing deadlines that run from the date of the storm. An inspection documents the roof either way.
Smithrock Roofing inspects roofs across these counties and will tell you plainly whether a storm left damage or not. Request an inspection, or read more about roof repair and replacement.

Filters: state North Carolina, county-type zones, counties listed above, event types Hail, Thunderstorm Wind and Tornado (High Wind, Ice Storm and Winter Storm are in the dataset but not in the tables). Wind speeds are converted from knots to miles per hour. Damage figures are the Weather Service estimates in the record and are not adjusted for inflation. The current year is incomplete until NOAA finalizes it, typically two to three months after each month ends. Rebuilt automatically from the source files; last run 2026-10-03.
